Nowadays whether passengers should be responsible for drunk drivers has become a hot issue in China.People’s opinions differ greatly as follows.

Some people are in favor of punishing passengers as well as drunk drivers.They argue that knowing the driver is drunk means encouraging drunk driving.Besides,drunk driving is a great threat to the safety of both the driver and the passenger.That’s why passengers have the responsibility to prevent the drunk drivers from driving.

Others are opposed to punishing passengers.It’s unfair for passengers to be fined because sometimes passengers cannot decide whether the driver is drunk or not.

From my point of view,both drivers and passengers should be responsible for the road safety to avoid traffic accidents.

Nobody could have failed to notice the fact that drunken driving has been a grave problem with which we are confronted.Generally speakingthere are several reasons accounting for this phenomenon.Firstlyrecent decades have witnessed the rapid development of people’s living standards.As a resultcars gained ever-increasing popularity and have found their way into our everyday life.Secondlypeople participate in more activities or banquets than ever beforewhere they will drink liquor/strong wine.Thenthey may get drunk but continue to drive.

Drunken driving is bound to generate severe consequence if we keep turning a blind eye to it.Firs and foremostthis behavior will directly threaten the safety of driverspassengers and pedestrians/goersresulting in traffic accidentsinjuries and even deaths.Besidestreating the injured and repairing broken cars mean a grievous waste of moneytime and resources.Last but not leastthis irresponsible driving will make the road a nightmareand thusit will causes serious losses of faith in governments and the society.

In view of the seriousness of this problemeffective measures must be taken before things gget worse.Firstit is essential that the supervisory role of laws and regulations should be strengthened to punish those performing drunken driving.Secondlythe publicespecially driversshould enhance their awareness of public safety.With stringent laws and alert publicit will only a matter of time for drunken driving to become things of past.
