写完香火，吃过早饭，雨也停了，黄崇光辞别老板，担着淡干鱼悠然而去。可是出了怪事，天黑的时候，肖老板堂屋中金光闪闪，而邻居们却看到他的房屋顶上瑞气腾腾，霞光万道，天天晚上如此。当地有个儒老拄着拐杖来到堂屋中，好奇地把黄崇光写的香火看了又看，发现左下角有一行蝇头小楷：“安化黄崇光。”儒老哈哈大笑而说：“难怪有如此灵气，原来是当今圣上的师父——安化的黄翰林为你写的，恭喜肖老板有福气，你从今以后将会子孙发达，财源广进。”果然，三年后，肖老板成了当地的首富。

道光二十三年，二江总督陶澍从南京回安化探亲，准备到桃花江看恩师，过洞庭入资江，下了官船，坐着四抬大轿，鸣锣开道浩浩荡荡向桃花江而来。突然官轿停止不前，并且前面吵吵闹闹，陶澍问手下：“发生了什么事?”“大人，前面有一个老翁坐在路中央，吸着旱烟，翘起二郎腿，还大喊：‘陶澍儿来见我。’大人怎么办?”陶澍立即下轿，一边吩咐手下不要对老翁无礼，一边自己整了整衣帽，来到老翁跟前双膝跪地而称：“恩师在上，请受弟子一拜。”当地老百姓目瞪口呆，议论纷纷：“当今圣上跟前的红人、二江总督陶大人都要向他下跪，真是‘人不可貌像，海水不可斗量。’这个安化佬真不简单，今天还听说他还是当今皇上的师父呢。”

从此，桃花江畔的人，再也不敢欺侮黄崇光了，他在那里过着平安的田园生活。

岳飞曾奉宋高宗之命，招抚岭表一带的曹成。曹成不服从，岳飞上奏给皇帝说：“群盗力最强大，就会肆意横行。力量削弱，才有可能接受招安。如果不用暴力加以围剿，而希图通过谈判来招降。是不容易的。”奏后。岳飞率兵进入岭表地区，恰巧抓到曹成派来的间谍，于是把他捆在岳飞帐篷前。岳飞出篷去调遣大军的粮草，一个官吏向他报告说：“粮食已经吃光，怎么办?”岳飞故意大声说：“那么准备返回茶陵吧!”过了一会儿岳飞回头看了这个间谍一眼，假装很失意的样子，跺着脚走进帐中。同时暗暗命令手下，设法让间谍逃走。爵飞估计间谍回去报告曹成一定要来追击。就下令立即开饭，饱食为度，然后迅速行军绕过山岭。不到天亮，已逼近曹成的堡垒。曹军出乎意料，乱作一团，惊呼：“岳家军到了!”岳飞乘乱大破曹军，一连夺取了很多险关隘口。曹成途穷力竭，岳飞这时说：“现在可以招降了。”

不久，陈子昂中进士，以上书论政，为武则天所赏识。他的诗是唐代革新派的先驱，对唐诗发展颇有影响。
